The official trailer of Pippa, starring Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur, has been revealed, offering an exciting preview of the film. The trailer delves into the Battle of Garibpur, a significant conflict during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war that played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s quest for independence with the assistance of the Indian Army.
The trailer focuses on the life of Captain Balram Mehta, portrayed by Ishaan, a member of the 45 Cavalry Tank Squadron. It introduces the audience to the war tank known as “Pippa,” a reference to the PT-76 (Palavushi Tanka), which was popularly known as a floating tin of ghee due to its buoyancy. The film takes us back to the eastern front during the Battle of Garibpur, where Captain Balram Singh Mehta assumed command of the squadron after their leader fell during the mission. Alongside his siblings, he played a crucial role in India’s path to victory.
The battle cry, “We fight like soldiers, kill like soldiers, and die like soldiers,” served as a rallying call for the Indian forces, ultimately leading to the liberation of Bangladesh. Balram Mehta and the Indian Armed Forces exemplify valor and courage, redefining heroism in the context of liberating another nation.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur and directed by Raja Krishna Menon, Pippa stars Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Soni Razdan in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the film, Ronnie Screwvala expressed his pride in presenting this story and saluting Indian heroes. Director Raja Krishna Menon added that Pippa is a tribute to the armed forces and a lesser-known tale of triumph. The film is based on Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta’s book “The Burning Chaffees.”
With music by AR Rahman, Pippa promises to be a soul-stirring experience. The film is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 10.
