The highly anticipated airport in Noida is making significant progress, with the runway and air traffic control (ATC) tower expected to be completed by March 2024, according to project officials. During a recent review meeting, S P Goyal, the additional chief secretary to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and additional chief secretary for Civil Aviation in the Uttar Pradesh government, received updates on the project’s status.
With a dedicated workforce of around 7,200 individuals, construction activities are taking place around the clock to ensure the timely completion of this Greenfield airport project.
“The construction work of the ATC tower was a key focus of our review,” stated an official source. “The ATC tower is designed with eight floors, six of which have already been completed, and the remaining two floors are currently under construction. The tower stands at a height of 30 meters, and the entire construction is set to conclude by February 2024.”
Regarding the runway, the statement noted that construction is approximately 70% complete, with the airstrip expected to be finalized by February-March 2024. The terminal building’s construction is also progressing rapidly.
During an on-site inspection, Goyal was joined by Noida International Airport Limited CEO Arun Vir Singh, Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann, COO Kiran Jain, District Magistrate Manish Verma, and Yamuna Authority’s officer-on-special duty Shailendra Bhatia, among others.
Goyal also examined the development of an interchange, which is being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at Dayanatpur. This interchange will connect the airport located in the Jewar area of the Gautam Buddh Nagar district to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. NHAI officials confirmed that the road construction to link the airport to the expressway is progressing on schedule.
During the visit, Goyal issued directives to expedite construction efforts to ensure that the project adheres to the agreed-upon timeline as per the concession agreement.
The Noida airport, set to become India’s largest upon completion, is scheduled to open for commercial operations by the end of next year, following the completion of the first phase of development in an expansive 1,300-hectare area.
The airport’s development is being undertaken by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a fully-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government. Tata Projects serve as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners for this ambitious project.
This progress update marks a significant step forward for the Noida airport, which promises to enhance connectivity and serve as a vital hub for travelers in the region. With its strategic location and the commitment of multiple stakeholders, it is poised to make a substantial contribution to the aviation landscape in India.
