Global Maritime India Summit 2023: Key Details

Date and Venue

The Global Maritime India Summit 2023 is set to occur from October 17 to 19, 2023. The event will be held at MMRDA Grounds in BKC, Mumbai, after a last-minute shift from the previously planned venue at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

Inauguration by PM Modi

The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. In his address, PM Modi emphasized India’s role in the evolving global order and the nation’s efforts to become a developed country within the next 25 years.

Participation

The event expects the participation of representatives from 70 nations, including key countries like the UAE, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Belarus, South Africa, Armenia, Italy, Bangladesh, and Madagascar. More than 250 national and international speakers and CEOs are expected to attend.

Summit Highlights

Port-related Projects Inaugurated

PM Modi laid the foundation and inaugurated port-related projects worth over Rs 18,800 crore during the summit. Notably, he launched the foundation stone of the Tuna Tekra all-weather deep-draft terminal at the Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat, a project valued at around Rs 4,539 crore. This terminal is envisioned to play a pivotal role in the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor.

Thematic Sessions and Roundtables

The summit will feature more than 20 thematic sessions, including seven international roundtables and over 13 sectoral and state discussions. The agenda encompasses crucial topics such as Chabahar and INSTC (International North–South Transport Corridor), regional cooperation within BIMSTEC countries, and the newly introduced IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor).

Unveiling Amrit Kal Vision 2047

During the summit, PM Modi unveiled the Amrit Kal Vision 2047, a comprehensive long-term strategy for India’s maritime blue economy. The vision outlines strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing port facilities, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering international collaborations.
