Delhi’s Air Quality and Weather Conditions

Air Quality Status:

Despite efforts to improve air quality, Delhi’s pollution levels remain a concern. The latest data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 258, categorizing the air quality as ‘poor’. The current figure is slightly worse than the previous day’s AQI of 256. Concerns are growing as the city braces for a potential decline in air quality, with the forecast indicating a shift to the ‘very poor’ category over the weekend.

Temperature Variation:

The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 15.2 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below the normal range. However, the maximum temperature is expected to rise to approximately 32 degrees Celsius. The deviation from the normal temperature range might contribute to the prevailing air quality issues.

Analysis of Smog Tower’s Effectiveness:

IIT-Bombay Study:

An IIT-Bombay study evaluated the efficacy of the smog tower installed at Connaught Place, concluding that it is more efficient at purifying air during winters than in summers. The study’s findings, submitted to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), suggested the tower’s limitations, leading to suggestions for its closure due to its perceived ineffectiveness.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s House Assembly Session:

Agenda Discussion:

The monthly house assembly session of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to address various pressing issues. Among the proposed agendas by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), discussions will revolve around the potential opening of community reading rooms at unutilized vacant garbage ‘dhalaos’ and the introduction of pension benefits for 50% part-time workers. The session’s deliberations aim to address critical community concerns and improve the overall functioning of the MCD.

Delhi continues to grapple with the challenge of maintaining air quality and addressing municipal concerns, with policymakers and authorities actively engaged in seeking effective solutions to enhance the living conditions in the city.
