Cyclone ‘Hamoon’ Hits Coastal Bangladesh

Landfall and Weakening Predictions

Cyclone Hamoon, a potent cyclonic storm, has recently made landfall along the coastal regions of Bangladesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that it will gradually weaken over the next six hours, eventually transforming into a deep depression. The cyclone’s current location has been identified to be approximately 40 km east-southeast of Chittagong, with wind speeds ranging between 80 to 90 kmph and gusts reaching up to 100 kmph.

Precautionary Measures and Warnings

In anticipation of the cyclone’s impact, several precautionary measures have been implemented. A ‘storm warning cage number 2’ was installed at Pamban Port in Rameswaram to alert fishermen about the severe cyclonic storm. Similarly, the Odisha administration has issued alerts for all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) as a precautionary measure.

Tracking Cyclone ‘TEJ’ and Weather Conditions in Nearby Regions

Concurrently, the Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘TEJ’ over coastal Yemen has weakened into a cyclonic storm and is anticipated to further diminish into a depression within the next six hours, according to the Meteorological Department. Moreover, the IMD has forecasted light to moderate rainfall over Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, and eastern Arunachal Pradesh during the coming days.

Advisory for Fishermen and Affected Areas

In light of the cyclonic activities, fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into specific areas, including the Northeast Bay of Bengal, the coastal regions of Bangladesh, and north Myanmar coasts until October 25. Additionally, caution has been advised for the adjoining regions of the northwest Bay of Bengal and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal until Wednesday afternoon.

As meteorological authorities closely monitor the trajectory of Cyclone Hamoon and its associated weather patterns, preparations and precautions remain integral to safeguarding the affected regions and communities from potential adverse impacts.
